To give some background on the subject, when I was consulting at a national warehouse business, my team and I created a workplace team that taught workers skills to identify, implement and manage changes within their sphere of accountability.

For example, forklift operators created more efficient stacking and placement routes. Think about it, we did this because these employees knew their jobs better than their managers, that’s critical thinking.

Site managers changed shift operations to better accommodate the flow of trucks based on the unique needs of their site. It had previously been based on the shifts of corporate operations policy. Talk about a poor operating model.

Hang on. Transformation ahead!

Why This Matters

This is an important concept because employees got excited about their ability to effect change around them, preparing them for larger company-wide changes.  Why not listen to these people and get their insights?  Some of those employees spend more than 40+ hours a week doing these simple tasks.

With the changes in how people work together, a.k.a. virtual ‘everything’, there are new tools that will help your team identify and implement improvements around them. This is a practical approach that starts and ends with a 20-minute course that provides the tools and templates to begin to make an immediate change in your area … with your team. Tools to Help

In conclusion, I recently created a Leadership Playbook which identifies five key plays every manager of people can put in place immediately to dramatically improve your organization.  Leadership Play #3 focuses on how and what managers need to do to re-establish their employee commitment and get them to focus on the future, as opposed to being stuck in the dramatic past.

Success principles are like any other discipline, a mindset.  A mindset that is taught by experts.  People who have walked the path before you and have implemented successful change.
