Changes & Business Strategy

During a recent transformation effort in a manufacturing organization, we discovered that over 60% of the projects that were planned or underway did not align with the overall purpose and strategy of the organization … in any way.

These were ‘pet’ projects that leaders got support for because they met ROI requirements, offered new and sexy capabilities (that did little for the customer or company), or simply shifted resources to executives who sought to have more control and influence in the company.

Creating Alignment and Doing It Right

To begin, we overlaid ALL of the projects to the business strategy and capability gaps. Then we walked leadership, as a team, through each project and allowed them to have their own ‘ah ha’ moments to reprioritize how scarce resources were being invested into their company.

Moreover, not only did we reallocate effort to what was important, but we got leadership to work together as an aligned team to drive the organization’s success, not just their own personal agendas. Baby Steps For Your Business Strategy

In conclusion, figure out how each piece of the puzzle fits into the big picture.  What will making a change do for your organization?  Is it measured and tracked?  Do you have a method for incorporating and reviewing change?
